It’s been a great year for our trees! (But a hot one. So keep watering all of your trees, even mature ones!) With our Spring plantings, we have now planted over 175 trees in St. Regis Park—we hope to break the 200 milestone this Fall, which is really the ideal time to plant. Later in this newsletter, we have repeated all the information you need to participate in either the tree planting or the tree maintenance program—or both! We’ll repeat this information every few months for your convenience.
And speaking of new trees, the tree board members have been a bit concerned about the trees planted two or three years ago. As a gentle reminder, everyone who gets a new tree agrees to keep it mulched continuously—no expiration date—and the Gator bags are supposed to be used through the first two years of your tree’s life. If you returned your bag prematurely, you may contact one of us to get another bag. Even if your tree was one of our original ones, you still need to keep it mulched—Remember 3-3-3—three inches of mulch, three feet around the tree, leaving a 3-inch space around the trunk; and every tree needs to be watered appropriately. Thanks for your cooperation.
In case you are new to St. Regis Park, or just haven’t considered our tree options, we’ve gathered a few comments from your neighbors who have participated. Remember, a healthy tree canopy contributes to the health of our citizens and the value of everyone’s property. A mature tree can add thousands to the value of your home. But don’t take our word for it—ask your neighbors!
The trees are wonderful. Cindi Sullivan is great and the crew that planted the trees too. Cindi added trees between my neighbor and me. The look Is fantastic. Thank you for overseeing this project. We really will look forward to enjoying the new trees. – Brian Brewer
Thanks to everyone involved in the tree program here in beautiful St Regis Park. Our tree was professionally planted with a great team & even Cindi pulled up right at the end to final inspect. What a great concept & what a great commitment to our neighborhood! Thanks, everyone. –Joe Conder

Would You Like a New Front or Back Yard Tree? If so, email the following information to Mary Mattingly email@example.com
- Your name
- Phone number
- Email address
- Location you think you want a tree—Front, side, or back, and/or any thoughts you have on size or type of tree(s) you would prefer
Cindi will then put a flag in your yard where she thinks a tree would work. You have the chance to contact her if you have any concerns. When everything is settled, your yard will be marked for utilities, and the tree will be planted shortly thereafter. If you do not use email, call that information into the city phone line, 491-7777. To get a head start, fill out the Memorandum of Agreement, available below and on our website, retreethepark.com, and mail it to Joe Hinkle, 2605 Hurdle Way, 40220.
Do You Need Maintenance on Your Tree, or Advice About the Health of Your Trees? The Mayor and City Council have allocated funds for tree maintenance and the removal of dead trees. Here’s the policy and procedure, if you are interested in work in your front, side, or back yard:
You may qualify for a one-time reimbursement of 40%, up to $500, per household, per year, for tree maintenance (pruning, treatment, bracing, etc.) or removal of a dead or dying tree, as long as allocated funds are available. Work must be approved by the city arborist and performed by a qualified, insured, and bonded tree contractor, with a certified arborist on staff. To participate in this program, residents must submit a request to the Tree Board (see above for Mary Mattingly’s email) with your name, address, phone, email, and a brief description of the work you think needs to be done. The Tree Board will review and approve the applications to participate in the program based upon the arborist’s evaluation and balance of funds allocated to the program. You may pick your own qualified tree service, but here is a list that residents have used recently:
